Hawthorn

When it comes to hawthorn, more than 50 people know it (maybe even kids now? I don’t know), because we often eat hawthorn flakes. The small pieces are in a round paper tube, a little sour and a little sweet. There are also hawthorns in Beijing’s sugar gourds, and some hawkers use the fruits of begonias. People who do not understand plants may not eat them :) Hawthorn is a relative of apples (the same subfamily), with more than 200 different species. Chinese medicine says hawthorn has many medical effects. The medicinal ingredient is macromolecular tannin, other medicinal ingredients are vitex, vitexin-2-rhamnolipid and the like. It is said to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

Yesterday (2018.5.4) I saw a few beautiful hawthorn blooms near my house (E. Michigan). The flowers are large, white and beautiful. The following three photos were taken with a mobile phone.

These are 2012.5.7. The bees picked at the Beijing plant pick hawthorn flowers. The flower is later than the photo above. Does not seem to see Zhong Fengcai. These are Western bees.

The following is an aphid-eating fly, which is also very much like a bee. Most people don’t know.

There should be a picture of the fruit of hawthorn, but it was also missing.
